# Departments

> Give a school, team or region its own space to issue credentials, while your organization keeps the plan and the credits.

A **department** is an organization under yours. It has its own workspace: its own team, credential groups, designs and credentials. It uses your plan and your credits, up to an **allowance** you set.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Departments are on the Enterprise plan. Only administrators of the parent organization can manage them.

## Turn on departments

Go to **Add integration**, open **Departments**, and install it. **Departments** then shows in the **Organization** part of the sidebar.

## Add a department

**1. Go to Departments and click Add department**

**2. Choose how to add it**

* **Create a new department**: start an empty organization under yours. Enter its name and, if you like, its website. You become its administrator, and you invite its team from its settings.
* **Add an organization you run**: move one of your existing organizations under yours.

**3. Confirm**

> [!WARNING]
>
> A department can't be removed from its parent later.

## Set the credit allowance

A new department starts with no allowance, so it can't issue until you set one. Set the most of your credits it can use, then click **Save allowance**. Usage resets every year. When a department reaches its allowance, its issuing pauses until usage resets or you raise it.

To work in a department, switch to it from the organization menu at the top of the sidebar.
