Design notes

The page is built around the centre: the name and program at the top, then one file of the board with a queen on e8 and a pawn on e2. A column on the left holds the citation, four achievements and two signatures, and a column on the right lines up the section, format, time control, place, issue date and credential ID with the squares. The QR code sits at the foot. It works for children's events and adult club championships alike.

About

Chess Portrait Certificate Template, Promotion

A portrait chess certificate suits a frame on the wall of a school hall, a club room or a coach's office. Players receive it after a tournament, a league season or a course, and it holds the whole result on one tall page.

Wording on the template“Awarded for winning the Open section, with play that held its standard from the first round to the last and stayed calm and exact under the clock.”

Subject: Your chess certificate is ready, name

Hi name,

Thank you for playing in our tournament. Your chess certificate is ready, and it records your result, the section and the date.

Open it to see it, download a copy to print for your wall, or add it to your LinkedIn profile so friends and teammates can congratulate you. The QR code on the page lets anyone check that it is real.

Well played, and see you at the next event.

Post for the recipient to share

I just received my certificate from the club tournament. Five rounds of rapid chess, a few close endgames and one game I will remember for a long time. Thank you to the arbiters and to everyone who sat across the board from me. On to the next event. #Chess #Tournament #MindSports

Printing

Printing it well

Print at actual size

Choose “Actual size” or 100% in the print dialog, not “Fit to page”, so the margins and the QR code keep their size.

Use card, not paper

A matte or silk card of 200–300 gsm (about 80–110 lb cover) feels like an award and does not curl in a frame.

Frame it

A4 fits a standard 21 × 29.7 cm frame; US Letter fits an 8.5 × 11 in frame, or an 11 × 14 in frame with a mat. Hang it upright, as designed.

Mind the edges

Most home printers leave a thin white border. For a design that runs to the edge, use a print shop or your printer’s borderless setting.
